Dinosaur egg

Updated: Jun 21, 2020

Growing up in Japan, my Mom used to make this dish for children's party.

It's rough, tough, and scary! And it sure made the day very special!

Adding barley makes it more nutritious, fiber-rich, and gives awesome texture.

Let's crack it open!

Ingredients (for 4 dinosaur eggs.)

400g ground beef

1 cup cooked barley (ca. 1/2 cup raw barley)

1 onion - finely chopped

3 tbs tomato sauce

1 stp salt

1 tsp pepper

4 eggs - hard boiled

For frying:

Flour

2 eggs - beaten

Panko (bread crumbs)

Oil for frying

Directions:

  1. Mix all the ingredients (except boiled eggs) in a large bowl.

  2. Mix and knead them well. (Perfect to use surgical gloves!)

  3. Press the meat mixture flat in the bowl, and divide them into 4.

  4. Scoop 1/4 of meat mixture, insert a boiled egg in center, and make a large egg.

  5. Go through flour, beaten egg, and Panko (bread crumbs.)

  6. Fry in the oil (ca. 180 C degrees) until golden.

  7. Rest on kitchen paper (to remove the excess oil.)

  8. Heat up oven with fan at 190 C degrees.

  9. Place fried eggs on a baking sheet.

  10. Bake until clear "juice" comes out from the eggs.

  11. Serve while hot.
