What to do with leftovers?: Fish meat into fish cake

Updated: Jul 28, 2020

Growing up in Japan, I am used to eat fish, and I intend to encourage my family to enjoy sea food. My husband tells me that it's dangerous to go to aquarium with me, because everything looks delicious to me. (Yes, I know that they are there for education... but still....)

Anyway, if/when have leftover fish meat, you can dismantle fish meat (separate from skin and bone - very wise to use surgical glove!) put them in a plastic bag, press out as much air as possible, and freeze.

If you want to recycle the fish meat and make something new (it can be any types of fish, crab, or shrimp,) here is one recipe which can make an awesome new dish. And this is a fun recipe, making with kids!

Fish cake with salsa

Ingredients:

For fish cake: This recipe can make ca 20 fish cakes.

ca. 600g leftover fish meat (without bone and skin) - flaked. Tips: Use surgical glove!

1 cup angel hair pasta - cooked ca 2 minutes (or according to instruction on its package.)

2 eggs - slightly beaten

1/2 snack paprika (thin skin paprika) - finely chop

2 tbs fresh parsley - finely chop

1 cup Parmesan cheese - grated

3 tbs potato flour

1 spring onion - finally chop

Salt and peper to taste

Oil for frying

For Salsa:

3-4 tomatoes - dice into small pieces

1/2 snack paprika - finely chop

1 spring onion - finely chop

Balsamic vinegar

salt and pepper

Direction:

Salsa:

Mix everything in a bowl, and keep in fridge until serving

Fish cake:

1) Mix everything (except the oil for frying)

2) Make a flat round ball with hand

Tips: using surgical glove is a wonderful idea!

3) Fry in the oil until surface gets golden brown

If you don't eat them right away, keep warm in the oven.

It is also possible to freeze them.
